“We are pleased to congratulate Samsung on the opening of the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung as it is a showcase pavilion that will both entertain and inform,” said Gerhard Heiberg, Chairman of Marketing Commission of IOC. “As an official Worldwide Olympic Partner, Samsung has been a strong supporter of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and OR@S is a reflection of their continued commitment and dedication,” adds Heiberg.
“OR@S will be the epicenter of Samsung’s activities for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games providing interactive exhibits, daily live entertainment and it will serve as a retreat for athletes and spectators alike,” said Geesung Choi, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics. “Athletes and fans are invited to come and discover their exciting WOW moments together at OR@S, and through our pavilion, mobile phone products and Samsung WOW (Wireless Olympic Works) technology, we will connect people around the world to the Games.”
The Athlete Centre, located on the upper floor of the OR@S is known as the “Official Meeting Place for Athletes and Their Families”. Samsung created a lounge where athletes and their family members could come together to enjoy the festivities, and athletes can make free phone calls to family and friends back home using the Samsung OMNIA II touchscreen smartphone – the Official Mobile Device of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
OR@S debuted at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and has become a popular meeting spot, hosting more than three million people to date. For 2010, Samsung continued its eco-friendly approach in
constructing the OR@S. The OR@S is a temporary structure that clearly fulfills the objective of reusability, and all materials and components will follow RoHS guidelines.
OR@S is free to the general public, operating daily from February 12 to 28, 2010, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at LiveCity-Yaletown in David Lam Park.
