January 2010 Large-Area TFT-LCD Panel Shipments Show Larger than Anticipated Shipments During Off-Season
LCD monitor panel for January 2010 increased 1.9% M/M to 18.41M units marked highest monitor panel shipment following from December but NotePC and LCD TV panel shipments decreased 3.6% and 1.8% respectively. LCD TV panel saw increase in orders from Chinese makers due to Chinese New Year demands even under traditional off-season and the share of 32-inch products reached 42.1%.
January 2010 large-area TFT-LCD panel shipment by region showed Korea maintaining similar level of M/M representing 47.3% of global shipments and the share of the Taiwan rose over 1% to 42.8%. Looking at by maker with unit base, LG Display secured No.1 ranking for 4 consecutive months with 24.6% market share followed by Samsung Electronics with 22.7% market share.
Ricky Park, senior analyst in Display research group at Displaybank noted “after November 2009, panel makers’ operating ratios are increasing to over 90% level but tight supply is being continued. But in February 2010 when Chinese New Year demands are ending with lowered production days, panel shipment is expected to decrease. TV sales in China during Chinese New year grew almost 100% Y/Y that panel purchases that largely increased are expected not to be a burden to set makers”. Park added “the IT product demand increase that is relatively weaker would impact second-quarter panel market.”
