CKI and KIF work together to foster future finance experts

서울--(뉴스와이어)--Citibank Korea (CEO Ha Yung-Ku, www.citibank.co.kr) and Korea Institute of Finance (President Kim Tae-Joon) agreed to donate 302 million won (264,000 USD) to the finance talent development assistance program designed to help young talented students acquire financial knowledge. A signing ceremony was held at the conference room, 5th fl. Korea Federation of Banks building this morning, and CKI CEO Ha Yung-Ku, KIF President Kim Tae-Joon, Deputy Governor Moon Chung-Sook of Financial Supervisory Service attended the ceremony.

The fund is going to be used in varied initiatives. It will sponsor a book review/essay competition on finance that will invite students from top 50 local universities/graduate schools. A total of 60 – 40 from undergraduates and 20 from graduate students – book reviews/essays will be chosen to grant students with scholarships. The scholarship recipients will also be entitled to participate in a mentoring program and financial lectures provided by a group of experts from CKI, KIF, and FSS who will also serve as mentors for the program.

From this year the program gives opportunities to high school students as well. An essay contest on finance is open to outstanding students of vocational and technical high schools from low-income households, and 30 applicants will be finally offered with scholarships as well as finance lectures. To those in classical high schools aspiring to study finance at university can give it a try in a competition where they have to submit reports based on their experience in the real economy and finance.

Finance talent development assistance program is sponsored by Citi Foundation and organized by KIF as it was established to nurture next generations of finance sector and groom a sustainable pipeline of talents in the finance field. Citibank Korea has been working with KIF on this program since 2009 after with KAIST in 2008. In 2009, 122 teams received scholarships at the contest where students from 150 universities were invited. At the same time, they were given chances to be mentees where mentors with financial experience and expertise gave valuable advice to those looking for a finance career.

Details of 2010 program are as follows:

1. Program for low-income high school students
- Target: 30 outperforming high school students from low-income families (Vocational and technical high school)
- Scholarships: 45 million won in total (1.5 million won/recipient)
- Extra benefits: Lectures on financial knowledge, special guest lectures (catered to the needs of high school students)

2. Contest on finance/economy experience
- Target: 2 teams/high school
- How to apply: Students submit a report based on their experiences in real economy/finance
- Scholarships: A total of 42 million won to teams winning Grand Prize, Award of Excellence, Award of Distinction, and Honorable Mention
- Extra benefits: Lectures on financial knowledge, special guest lectures (catered to the needs of high school students)

3. Student book review/ case competition
- Target: 60 teams from local universities/graduate schools (40 undergraduate + 20 graduate student teams)
- Scholarships:
· 3rd/4th year undergraduates: Book review on finance (1.5 million won/piece)
· Graduate school student: Case (2.5 million won/piece)
· Case of excellence:
-Graduate student: 1 Grand Prize (10 million won), 1 Award of Excellence (7million won), 1 Award of Distinction (5 million won)
- Undergraduate: 1 Award of Excellence (5 million won), 1 Award of Distinction (3 million won)
- Extra benefits: Mentoring program, finance lectures provided by a financial expert group
