“An All-Star Assembly of the Masters of Traditional Martial Arts…The First Korea Nation-wide Martial Arts Contest”

서울--(뉴스와이어)--The First Korea Nation-wide Martial Arts Contest hosted by the Korea Traditional Martial Arts Association (President, Jeong Bok Yoo, hereafter the KTMAA) and sponsored by Daejeon Metropolitan City(Mayor, Seoung Hyo Park) opens for two days this April 24th and 25th in the Daejeon City Hall Square.

This event, which is the first traditional martial arts contest to be held on the nation-wide scale, will provide citizens with a great variety of events that provide spectacles and opportunities experience traditional martial arts first hand.

The colorful array of public demonstrations and contests of martial arts given by masters representing 7 major associations under the aegis of KTMAA promise to make this an opportunity for relishing the true grace and dignity of traditional martial arts.

KTMAA, which was established through the leadership of 7 major traditional martial arts associations after the enactment of the law regarding the promotion of traditional martial arts on March 28th, 2008, is the largest coalition of martial artists in Korea, having a membership reaching a total of 5 million. Affiliated under the banner of KTMAA are associations that include those for taekwondo, hapkido, kendo, special martial arts, original martial arts, traditional restoration martial arts, and secret service martial arts, etc.

Beginning with the opening ceremony which will take place in the Daejeon City Hall Square on Saturday, April 24th, a wide spectrum of contests and public demonstrations of traditional Korean martial arts shall be presented. The leading masters of the martial arts from each organization will participate in public performances for the visitors, providing them with demonstrations of the epitome of their art. The participating organizations under the aegis of KTMAA will stage self-organized martial arts contests.

Other enticing offerings include the Experiential Zone “You Too Can Become a Master” where families of visiting citizens can learn the martial arts for themselves, the board smashing contest for citizens, an event for experiencing traditional folk games, and a writing contest on martial arts.

Of particular interest will be the Martial Arts Championship taking place on the 25th, in which the foremost martial artists from organizations belonging to KTMAA shall compete: this Championship is expected to draw enthusiastic interest from visitors by providing a taste of the utmost height of traditional martial arts.

President Jeong Bok Yoo of KTMAA stated that “We have devoted much time to preparing this competition in order to showcase the true nature of traditional arts under our slogan, ‘The Fragrance of Five Millennia in the Martial Arts,’ and to allow the 7 associations under the aegis of KTMAA to present in essence the colorful variety of our martial arts” and added that “we hope to use this opportunity to elevate the pride of martial artists, and to identify the true pulse of our traditional martial arts so that we may all the better develop and transmit our cultural inheritance.”
