March 2010 Large-area TFT-LCD Panel Shipments to Reach All Time High

서울--(뉴스와이어)--Displaybank, a global authority in market research and consulting for the display and solar industries, today announced that March 2010 large-area TFT-LCD panel shipment increased 23.8% M/M to 56.87M units that recorded all time high. Revenue also increased 22.7% M/M to $7.23B that now closes to the revenue recorded in last May 2008 at $7.49B which was before the negative impacts from global economic recession. Displaybank noted the major factors for March LCD panel shipment increases are demand increase for consumer electronics coming from economic recovery and increased demand of IT products. These and other findings are disclosed in Displaybank’s newly updated Monthly Large-area TFT-LCD Panel Shipment Data Report, which covers Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel shipments on a monthly basis.

LCD monitor panel shipment that showed declining trend last month, showed 19.55M units to grow 29% M/M and 19.77M Notebook panels and 16.61M LCD TV panels have been shipped in March to show M/M increases of 24.1% and 16.8% respectively.

Large-area TFT-LCD panel shipment by region in March 2010 show Korea expanding its market share by 2.4% M/M to 48.4%, and shipment share of Taiwan and Japan regions recorded 37.6% and 13.3% which showed slight decrease M/M. For shipments by maker based on shipment volume, LG Display continues its No.1 ranking for 6 consecutive months with 25.2% market share followed by Samsung Electronic at 22.5% and AUO at 17.2%. In terms of revenue, Samsung Electronics secured 25.9% market share to ranked in No.1 position followed by LG Display at 24.8%.

Ricky Park, senior analyst in Display research group at Displaybank noted “even though first-quarter has been traditionally off-peak season but the panel shipments for the first-quarter of 2010 showed about 1.2M units more than the fourth-quarter of 2009. The increases in demand from emerging market including China for flat panel displays as well as demand increase of premium products in leading market are allowing continuous LCD panel demand increase and we expect the LCD panel demand increasing pace would continue during second-quarter of 2010.”
