Micrel Turns Up the Heat With Ethernet Extended Temp Options to Enable IP Connectivity in Extreme Environments
“A mature eco system and manufacturing scale are driving the increased adoption of Ethernet as the standard for industrial, automotive and military networking. The harsh environments of some of these applications necessitate products with extremely high reliability and quality -- both hallmarks of Micrel products,” noted Wiren Perera, Micrel‘s director of Ethernet Products. “Micrel’s new extended temperature Ethernet products create a new genre in networking and will enable the benefits of IP connectivity for a host of new market segments.”
The extended temperature (-40°C to +125°C) operation supported by the devices allows the benefits of Ethernet connectivity to be realized in a variety of industrial, automotive and military applications previously the domain of proprietary or niche protocols with higher cost. The low emissions and high immunity of the devices are also particularly suited to these application environments. Auto MDI/MDIX crossover support eliminates the need for cross-over cable, thus further reducing installation costs. The LinkMD® TDR-based cable diagnostics allows identification of common cabling problems, including those not addressed by IEEE standards; simplifying network deployment and reducing network downtime. With integration of an LDO controller on the chip, the devices are offered in the smallest package sizes (32-pin QFN for the KSZ8041NLJ and 48-pin LQFP for the KSZ8851-16MLLJ) to reduce system cost and streamline system design. Easy to use, each solution's standard compliance ensures that it will seamlessly work with other standard compliant, already deployed devices.
