“Samsung has been supporting numerous international sporting events such as the Olympics and the Asian Games. Through Samsung Worldwide Championship and other events, we have accumulated extensive experiences in the field of golf as well,” said Gye Hyun Kwon, Vice President and Head of Global Sports Marketing of Samsung Electronics, “Samsung will make utmost efforts to ensure that the support of the AAC on this occasion will not only broadly publicize the spirit of amateur sports, but also provide wonderful opportunities for promising Asian golfers to debut on the world stage and increase their reputation and popularity.”
Kwang-soo Hur, President of the APGC, said: “To maintain Asian players' current good stream in worldwide sports event, it is very critical for global companies to help find and nurture young players. Established last year, the AAC is a specialized tournament providing optimal conditions for young promising players to debut on the world stage. The winners receive the right to play in the Masters Tournament, and winners and runners-up are able to play in the final round of the British Open preliminaries.
Last year’s inaugural event was won by South Korean player Chang-won Han, and two other players from his country finishing second and third, respectively.
