2010 Citi-KOSBI Women Entrepreneur Awards
The award, marking its second year, was established as part of the “Women-led Enterprise Competitiveness Program” in 2008 to encourage women business leaders and replicate best practices among them.
This program, sponsored by Citi Foundation and organized by KOSBI, was introduced from 2007 with the purpose of developing successful role models for women-led small and medium sized enterprises and helping them enhance their competitive edges. This year the program set its goal of improving women-led enterprises’ competitiveness on the global stage.
The 2009 award winners were: Airvita (Entrepreneurship), MS Tech (Eco-friendly management), Saessac Total Food (CSR), and Viser (Human Resource Management).
The 3rd Citi-KOSBI Women Entrepreneur Awards comprises four categories – entrepreneurship, eco-friendly management, social corporate responsibility (CSR), and human resources management. Jeong, Young-Tae, Deputy Div. Head of Small and Medium Sized Business Administration and Chairperson Jeon Soo-Hye from Korean Women Enterprise Association were invited to grant the awards.
President Chang Ji-Jong of KOSBI said, “I believe that the more women business leaders we have, the greater growth our economy will achieve,” at his opening remarks. “Women entrepreneurs are our new hope and I look forward to their contribution to our economy as a new growth engine.” CKI CEO Ha Yung-Ku also said that Citibank Korea would be committed to identifying promising women business leaders and help them grow their companies.
At the place where award ceremony was held, KOSBI opened exhibition booths to promote products of women-led companies. A variety of products from Greenjui, one of the award winners, as well as Gyodong Traditional Food and Haemargeun Beonyoung Fishery showcased their products. Eco-friendly detergents of SK Plex, in particular, drew attention from the participants.
The award winners of the 2010 Citi-KOSBI Women Entrepreneur Awards are as follows:
▶ Entrepreneurship: Top Drill Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim, Jeong-Gyum)
: Top Drill is a manufacturing company specializing in DTH hammers and bits of which production is on a decline in developed economies including the U.S. and Japan while latecomers like China and India are still far behind in technology. The company’s continued commitment to technology development has enhanced its product quality and cost competitiveness. Its remarkable export performance and reputation has been contributing to the national standing.
▶ Eco-friendly Management: Green Jui Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Hyun-Mi)
: Greenjui, certified by the Ministry of Labor for its social responsibility, manufactures recycled toner cartridges and eco-friendly cosmetics products. It is the role model of “remanufacturing” business through recycling toner/cartridges that saves of up to 80% of energy and resources contributing to conserving our environment.
▶ CSR : Youngjin Industrial Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Mi-Ja)
: Youngjin Industrial established a volunteering community comprised of its employees to engage in a variety of volunteering activities including clean-ups of cultural assets and roads of the community the company belong to, as well as clean-ups of oil spill in the West Sea and sisterhood relationship with cultural heritages. The company is a also member of business community’s “Noblesse Oblige” initiatives.
▶ Human Resources Management: Hyeseong Apparel (CEO Jang, Jeong-Ae)
: Unlike most SMEs, Hyeseong Apparel has well established its own code of conduct and training policies with an aim to retain employees and help them enhance their capabilities. It also runs a reward program to those who suggest job-related ideas to make sure employee job skills are upgraded and talented people are fostered from within.
