Ewha-Citi Global Finance Academy is an industry-academy collaboration that marks its 10th year since its inception in 2001. The primary goal of the program is to introduce talented female students to the real-world practices in banking and related businesses and foster them as a financial expert who will lead the 21st century. The program also aims to motivate young females to pursue their career in the financial services industry.
CKI CEO Ha Yung-Gu, President Lee Bae-Yong, Dean Kim Jin-Ho of Dept. of Business Administration of Ewha Women’s University, the 18th term students, and Citi executives who joined as instructors were invited to the ceremony. A rice cake was prepared in celebration of the 10th anniversary.
“I hope that this wonderful collaborative program will last for a longer period of time, becoming the foundation for the advancement of local financial sector by providing talented women resources to the industry,” said President Lee of Ewha Women’s University. CKI CEO Ha added in his remarks, “I think what women need is not the help. What they really want is a level playing field.” “Citi is committed to providing support in the supply of talented women to the financial services arena.”
The program is aimed at motivating students aspiring to pursue career in the financial services industry by delivering financial knowledge – both theory and practice. Up until 2009, a total of 1,142 students completed the course during the 17 terms. In the current 18th term, 150 students are taking the course with a dream of building career in the finance.
Citibank executives who have over 15 years of experience in their expertise with at least MBA-level academic credential offer practical banking knowledge. They deliver lectures on a variety of topics such as corporate banking, consumer business, and investment banking. Students not only acquire knowledge about real world financial and economic issues, but career development advice from seasoned experts.
Those who complete the course will be awarded certificates authorized by Dean of Department of Business Administration of Ewha Women’s University and CEO of Citibank Korea. Those with good grades and recommendations of the relevant professor will be given a chance to do internship at CKI.
Citigroup is promoting industry-academy programs worldwide. In Asia, Citi is joining hands with Waseda Univ., Keio Univ., and Hitotsubashi Univ. in Japan, National Taiwan University in Taiwan, and Ewha Women’s Univ. in Korea.
