Citibank Korea receives appreciation plaque from Joyful Union
Citi’s microcredit sponsorship initiative first embarked on in Korea with the intention of helping those who suffered from the financial crisis back in 1998. Supporting the Joyful Union’s participation in Grameen Trust training in 1999 was the first effort. Landmark sponsorship programs include Microcredit Symposium in 2005 hosted by the Joyful Union and Korean Microcredit Model Development Project for 3 consecutive years since 2009 which finally came to announce “Korean Microcredit Model” last February. CKI continues its efforts to provide funds as well as consulting services for the operation and infrastructure setup of the Union.
Citigroup is committed to the microfinance business worldwide since its first financial sponsorship worth of 5,000 USD in 1965 under the leadership of Citi Foundation. In the firm belief that financial access should be protected and secured for all people as long as they aspire to have the access as a member of society, Citi Foundation has so far offered grants on microfinance and microcredit business worth of over 80 million USD to 365 programs across 60 countries for the past 11 years.
