서울--(뉴스와이어)--Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in the consumer electronics industry, today announced that it has agreed to become the title sponsor of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League for the next two seasons. The league will now be rebranded the ‘Samsung Diamond League’ starting with the Athletissima meet in Lausanne on July 8, 2010.

Launched in 2010, the ‘Samsung Diamond League’ is an annual series of track and field meets organized by the IAAF that run from May to September, hosting 14 one day meets around the world that feature the world’s best athletes. The ‘Samsung Diamond League’ will enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics by including events for the first time in the United States, China, and Qatar.

In order to engage fans and further the excitement of the event around the world, the IAAF has made arrangements with world athletics stars such as Usain Bolt of Jamaica (sprint) and Sanya Richards of the United States (sprint) to participate in the inaugural season of the ‘Samsung Diamond League.’

Samsung is also an Official Partner of the IAAF World Championships, one of the world’s top sporting events, as part of a three-year agreement that started in 2009. The IAAF is the international governing body for the sport of athletics, which is comprised of events that involve running, sprinting, throwing, jumping and walking.

For Samsung, the sponsorship will offer a range of marketing opportunities in relation to advertising and promotional activities.

“We are very proud of our sponsorship of the IAAF, which is always associated with the highest level of athletic achievement and hosts the world’s top athletes. And now as title sponsor of the ‘Samsung Diamond League,’ we have the honor of connecting with loyal and dedicated athletics fans around the world," said Gyehyun Kwon, Vice President and Head of Worldwide Sports Marketing at Samsung Electronics.

Lamine Diack, IAAF President, said “I am delighted with this deal, particularly because it is with a leading global company that is already our Official Partner for the IAAF World Championships series of events. Samsung understands athletics and we look forward to working closely with them to make the ‘Samsung Diamond League’ a great success.”

Athletics also involves human stories and encourages people to challenge themselves through commitment and determination. This is in line with Samsung’s devotion to achieve performance excellence to benefit its consumers while improving human society through the application of digital technology.

As a global leader in sports marketing, Samsung sponsors many major sporting events and teams around the world, including the Olympic Games as a Worldwide Partner and Chelsea FC of the English Premier League.
