서울--(뉴스와이어)--Media advertising activity in the first quarter in 2010 across 12 Asia Pacific markets surged by 18% compared to the same period in 2009.

The Nielsen Company, a global information and media company surveyed 12 countries in Asia Pacific region such as Korea, China, Hong Kong, India, etc. and concluded that the advertising spending in Asia Pacific region decreased a little compared to the 4th quarter 2009 but lifted to US$31.16 billion with overall increase of 18%.

India(+32%) increased the advertising spending the most compared to Q1 2009, followed by Indonesia(+26%), Hong Kong(+25%) and Philippines(+24%). Korea increased 14% for a year.

It is appeared that Asia Pacific consumers are all ready upbeat on how they will utilize their spare cash after covering essential living expenses, including 47% on holidays/vacations, 41% new clothes, 40% investing in share of stock/mutual funds while 62% on putting into savings.

“In the clearest sign yet that the region is accelerating out of recession, six of the ten most confident consumer markets globally are from Asia Pacific and these are setting the pace of recovery, with positive consumer confidence level increases in the Q1 2010 Nielsen Global Consumer Confidence Index. All of these discretionary spending considerations showed significant growth over the same findings in Q1 2009 and this is not lost on most marketers who are now back in growth mode. The challenge for marketers however, will be strengthening their brand awareness and positioning where visibility diminished during the downturn. Consumers are out there spending and intending to loosen up their purse strings, so the onus is now on marketers to ensure their products and services return to top of mind” said Eun-Hee Shin, Managing Director, The Nielsen Company Korea.
