Award Ceremony of 2010 Citi-KIF Financial Essay Contest for High School Students
The event is part of an initiative hosted by KIF, sponsored by Citi Foundation and advised by the Financial Supervisory Service, which is designed to identify and nurture potential leaders in the financial sector. It initially targeted undergraduate or graduate students only, but the invitation was later extended to high school students.
The contest was open from April 19 to June 4 to general high school students and vocational high school students from low income families. Through the review process, 13 teams of general high school students (a group of four) and 29 vocational high school students were named as the awardees. Among 13 teams of general high school students, a grand prize winner, a first prize winner, a second prize winner and two third prize winners were named, and they received KRW 10 million including research grant for an advisory teacher, KRW 7.5 million, KRW 5 million and KRW 3.5 million each, respectively, with an award. The awardees chosen from vocational high school students from low income families were rewarded with KRW 1.5 million each.
KIF President Tae Joon Kim said, “ We hope that the contestants had opportunities to understand financial services through early experiences with the real economy and the financial system and build on this opportunity to grow into financial specialists. This is the reason why we introduce this program.” Jung Hoon Kang, Executive Vice President of Citibank Korea acknowledged the awardees saying, “I hope that the contestants draw on various experiences to
think about their future and grow into future talents for Korea.”
The event offered a mentoring program for ceremony attendees who had an opportunity to hear from employees of Citibank Korea and KIF about their experiences on the front line of financial services.
Since 2007 when Citibank Korea launched the initiative, it has identified and nurtured future leaders in the financial sector with the sponsorship of Citi Foundation. The purpose is to nurture and cultivate financial leaders and specialists who will contribute to the competitiveness of the Korean financial industry.
