YWCA-Citi Creative Education Opens Doors for Future – ‘2010 Success Program’ & ‘Think Money’ Award ceremony

- 12 Teams win in the Success Program competition for creative teaching of finance and environment

- 10 teams selected including schools, Citibank branches, and instructors for excellence in “Think Money” youth education

SEOUL--(뉴스와이어)--YWCA Korea (President Kang, Kyo-Ja, , www.ywca.or.kr) and Citibank Korea (CEO Ha Yung-Ku, www.citibank.co.kr) hosted a ceremony named “YWCA-Citi Creative Education Opens Doors for Future” at YWCA Hall at 2pm on December 8, 2010 to award excellent projects of 2010 Success Program, a creative finance/environment teaching method competition, and recognize participants with outstanding performance of youth financial education program “Think Money.”

Final results of “2010 Success Program” project competition: Finance and Strategy Minister Award went to “Start your own business with invention items” by teacher Shin, Dong-Joon of Dongsan High School and “Learn how to save planet at classroom” that teacher Lee, Deok-Soo of Daegu Seonmyeong School submitted won the Environment Minster Award. This year, the contest was conducted for three categories: general category that supports elementary/middle/high schools; teacher group category that funds constant research of teacher winners since 2005; and visioner category that finances projects of teachers from special/alternative schools and local children care centers. 287 project proposals were submitted this year, out of which 189 were shortlisted to give funds for actual implementation. 12 projects were chosen after final review of their project reports submitted.

“Success Program” is one of the next-generation education collaboration programs jointly devised by Citibank Korea and National YWCA Korea in 2005. It was designed to help teachers develop innovative and creative ways of teaching finance and environmental protection and ultimately spread their best teaching practices across the country. Marking its 6th year, the program is widely acknowledged for its contribution to enhancing students’ environmental and financial awareness and helping them save, spend, and share wisely for their future.

On the same day, YWCA and Citibank Korea also awarded 10 teams from schools, branches of YWCA and Citibank, and instructors that demonstrated excellence in providing “Think Money” financial education nationwide for the last one year. Think Money activities include visiting elementary/middle/high schools to teach economy and finance, holding a market where students can learn how to save, share, exchange, and reuse things, promotion of finance community activities at school, and promotion of the use of pocket money book. Think Money is an education initiative launched in 2006 that incorporated both financial knowhow of the Citibank Korea and the expertise in youth movement by YWCA in order to enhance young children’s awareness about the importance of real economy. Citibank Korea has been sponsoring the program for 5 years with the funds provided by the Citi Foundation.

Award granting ceremony was followed by musical performances to celebrate the event. Award winning projects of “2010 Success Program” were on display on the 1st floor of National YWCA Korea building which was well received by event participants.
