Students of Citi-Kyung Hee Univ. NGO Internship Program join “Giving and Sharing Day”

SEOUL--(뉴스와이어)--Citibank Korea (CEO Ha, Yung-Ku) and Kyung Hee Univ. NGO Graduate School (Dean Lee, Dong-Soo) held a “2011 Sharing and Giving Day” event with students of 5th Citi-Kyung Hee Univ. NGO Graduate School Internship Program.

The event was aimed at raising the awareness about underprivileged people and enhancing the sense of community. Out of 100 students working for NGOs, about 60 students joined the initiative. They chose 6 elderly people living alone to repair their houses and visited after-school child care center in Jeonnong-dong to provide support.

Citi-Kyung Hee Univ. NGO Internship Program, sponsored by CKI and organized by Kyung Hee NGO Graduate School, marks its fifth year, and has been offering local students with work experiences in NGOs and civic groups since 2006 to help them better understand what civil society is about and establish best corporate citizenship practices. The students of the 5th internship program are working full-time in one of 75 major NGOs in metropolitan cities across the country. The internship will last for two months from Dec. 27, 2010 till Feb. 18, 2011.

About these activities, Dean Lee Dong Soo of Kyung Hee Univ. NGO Graduate School said, “‘Giving and Sharing Day’ is a volunteer program that students participating in Citi-Kyung Hee Univ. NGO Internship Program serve the local community besides NGOs and civil society organizations in a brief space of time. Through it, students can understand of a life to live together with our neighbors and make a way to introspect.”

After the house repair activity, Kim Jung Yun , a student at Silla Univ. said, “Through this program, I realize a sad reality of our society that many senior citizens who live alone are still in hardship to have a comfortable living place. From now on, we need to draw up measures to support them and take more interest to this problem in our society.” and “Actually ‘Giving and Sharing Day’ is not a day that we just give and share something to children in after-school child care center unilaterally but rather a day that we received a happiness from the children with a sunny smile.” said Kim A Ram, Kyung Hee Univ. students who joined the afterschool child care program.
