Citibank Korea volunteers to bring warmth to our neighbors in the coldest weather
Free lunch was served to more than a thousand people in our community who are struggling to endure the coldest temperature, including the elderly living alone or having no one to turn to as well as homeless people. It was a moment of sharing not only warm meals with neighbors but also warm hearts. Jin-Hwan Bae, one of new CKI employees who joined the event said, “It was heartbreaking to see our neighbors in hardship especially in this freezing weather.” “As I just started my career, I also would like to look around me and spare more time to help others in need.”
“Since Pastor Il-Do Choi first started BAFFOR Sharing Movement 23 years ago, serving free meals to those in need amount to as many as 5 million. Citibank’s donation of 24,000 kg of rice is the largest ever in its scale as a single donation, which is sufficient enough to feed 120,000 starving people at home and abroad,” mentioned Hyung-Gil, Kim, Head of BAFFOR Division of the Dail Community acknowledging Citibank’s donation efforts. Meanwhile, Citibank Korea donated 10 million won worth of Onnuri gift vouchers to Civic Movement Center for Love and Jiguchonsarangnanum (meaning sharing love in a global village in Korean) - an organization for multi-cultural families and immigrant workers - respectively last January. It is part of an effort to support their free lunch delivery and free meal center by providing gift vouchers that can be used in local traditional markets.
