MILPITAS, CA--(Korea Newswire)--Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), the world leader in connected media platforms, today announced that its award-winning Z-Wave technology has been integrated into the Best Buy Insignia brand's new cTV line of broadband-connected televisions. Z-Wave is a leader in the smart, connected home market, featuring an interoperable wireless RF mesh networking technology that allows a wide array of devices in and around the home to communicate including lighting, appliances, thermostats, entertainment centers and security systems.

The new Insignia televisions will provide Best Buy customers with an exceptional, intuitive user experience for controlling their TVs by utilizing the latest Z-Wave technology in the Insignia remote and TV. With over 500 supported commands, Z-Wave provides an easy-to-use platform, and also enables the use of other Z-Wave controllers and devices to connect through the TV.

“Implementing Z-Wave technology into Insignia remote controls allows the consumer the ability to control their Insignia TV from anywhere in the room without having a direct line of site to the TV. With a range of 100 feet this remote control can even penetrate cabinet walls and work through furniture. Insignia is thrilled to be working the Sigma Designs to help solve this problem,” said Patrick McGinnis, vice president of Exclusive Brands for Best Buy. “We're proud to be working with Sigma Designs to bring another ease-of-use solution to the consumer.”

The Z-Wave bidirectional remote is a true “universal” remote. The bidirectional technology makes the Insignia TV easy to set-up and be updated with new commands and IR codes as needed, two features not possible with standard IR remote controls.

By implementing Z-Wave technology into the TV, these new Best Buy TVs are equipped to control beyond just the remote. The Z-Wave ecosystem, including home monitoring, home healthcare, safety and security, and energy conservation devices can all be controlled from this TV. Z-Wave certified products are currently available from leading consumer brands in over 500 products worldwide.

“The Insignia brand of high-definition televisions from Best Buy is the epitome of technology leadership and innovation,” stated Thinh Tran, CEO and chairman of Sigma Designs. “We're extremely proud to team up with Insignia to bring the Z-Wave experience to this leading consumer electronics brand. And we look forward to continuing to work with Insignia on possible future projects.”
