MILPITAS, CA--(Korea Newswire)--Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), the world leader in connected media platforms, today announced that the SMP 8653 secure media processor has been selected by D-Link for use in its MainStage™ for Intel® Wireless Display TV adapter, allowing consumers to wirelessly project content up to 1080p from Intel Wireless Display notebook PCs to big screen HDTVs.

“D-Link‘s MainStage provides a seamless way for consumers to watch and share PC content on a TV, and for business users to show presentations and online content on flat-panel displays in conference rooms,” says Will Brown, associate vice president of product development, D-Link North America. “Incorporating Sigma’s processor technology, we were able to develop this innovative new product and address a broad range of consumer and SMB needs.”

The market for wireless PC to TV display devices is growing swiftly. More than 100 laptop models available today come with Intel Wireless Display technology, and the number of supported laptops is expected to continue its growth at a rapid pace. D-Link is the second announced company that has developed products with the ability to wirelessly stream PC content to the TV.

The solution requires two pieces -- a Sigma-powered TV adapter, such as the D-Link MainStage DHD131, and a notebook powered by the Intel Core™ Processor family with Intel Wireless Display. Intel Wireless Display captures fully rendered display frames and wirelessly sends the compressed video and audio to the Sigma-powered adapter that is connected to the TV.

Using Sigma‘s SMP8653 media decoder technology, D-Link’s MainStage DHD-131 wirelessly communicates with a laptop supporting Intel Wireless Display to extend the end user's PC browsing and 1080p viewing experience to the TV. Once the D-Link MainStage is connected to the TV, there is just a quick set-up process to create a wireless connection with the laptop. The adapter is designed to connect to a wide variety of TVs using either HDMI or A/V cables. Consumers benefit from this fully integrated PC-to-TV solution without having to plug any external components or dongles into their notebook computer or learn a new user interface.

“Sigma‘s SMP 8653 is the only chipset delivering the necessary technologies to wirelessly receive laptop content on an HDTV. D-Link is helping consumers and SMBs wirelessly stream content up to 1080p quality to their TV,” said David Lynch, vice president and general manger, media processor division at Sigma Designs. “Intel Wireless Display is becoming ubiquitous in PCs -- which means the market for products like the D-Link MainStage will only grow. Sigma’s media processors will be there to power those new products.”

D-Link's MainStage TV adapter enables users to easily:

· Take full advantage of music, pictures and videos from laptops or the Internets in 1080p on their big screen TV -- no more crowding around a small laptop screen
· Surf the web from the couch and easily access many of today's online movies and TV shows in 1080p by having all the access of a web browser on your TV
· Connect a laptop PC to a TV quickly and securely without cables
· Use your HDTV as a bigger, better HD display for your Intel Wireless Display laptop with the push of a single button
· Show presentations from your laptop on any business flat panel TV (or monitor)-equipped conference room are also just a button-push away
