SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--Citigroup Korea (CEO, Ha, Yung-ku, www.citigroupkorea.co.kr) will participate in Citi’s Earth Hour campaign on Mar. 31 for an hour from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. During the earth hour, office lights and sign boards will be switched off in Dadong HO, Incheon Bldg. Citibank Center, and 4 Citi premises in Cheongju, Osan, Ansan, Chuncheon.

On Saturday, March 31, Citi will participate in a global campaign for climate change by turning off lights at hundreds of office buildings and retail branches around the world. For the fifth year in a row, Citi will lead Citi’s Earth Hour campaign efforts by encouraging Citi facilities worldwide to go ‘dark’ during the designated hour – 8:30PM local time.

Earth Hour is a global initiative in partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) that occurs several weeks before Citi’s Global Earth Week in April. Individuals, businesses, and governments are invited to turn out their lights for one hour to collaboratively show their support for environmentally sustainable action.

The Earth Hour event began in Sydney in 2007, with two million people switching off their lights. By 2011, Earth Hour was reported as ‘the World’s largest campaign for the planet’ with participation in 135 countries and territories across every continent, including the world’s most recognized landmarks like the Eiffel tower in France and the Forbidden City in Beijing.

Citi joined the Earth Hour event in 2008 with just over 50 registered locations and has increased participation each year since. Last year 738 facilities in 309 cities, from Los Angeles to Dubai, turned off their lights. Earth Hour 2012 should be another record year for Citi; 2060 facilities in 929 cities will join the event, almost triple the number of 2011 participating sites.
