Gangnam Style reaches Youtube’s Top 10 in fastest time by any video

Gangnam Style has made incredible progress, reaching number 1 on the UK chart and number 2 on the Billboard chart in the US. On Youtube, where billions of videos are uploaded, Gangnam Style is on a quest to set a variety of impressive records related to time and magnitude.
Gangnam Style set a Guinness record in the field of ‘The most liked video’ on Youtube with 3.47 million ‘likes’ as of October 5th. The video also reached 300 million views in 76 days, breaking Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On the floor’ of 139 days (2nd place) and Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ of 188 days (3rd place).
Gangnam Style’s view on Youtube is increasing at the highest rate with 10 million views a day. By comparison, videos ranked up to 9th on the most viewed list are having 100,000 to 500,000 views a day. The videos include Justin Bieber at number 1 with 780 million views and Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On the Floor’ at number 2 with 600 million views.
Lee Sun-ah of Korean Wave Research Institute (headed by Han Koo-Hyun) said, “Of the videos that surpassed 300 million views on Youtube, Gangnam Style is the first to continue hitting 10 million views per day. This record is unlikely to be beaten. Factoring in related videos such as parodies, concerts, and reaction videos on top of the original Gangnam Style video, the ‘True Reach’ would be close to 30 million views per day which is extraordinary.”
The Gangnam Style music video should comfortably reach 500 million views in October considering its ongoing popularity. The real question is if Gangnam Style will pass Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ which has 780 million views.
Korean Wave Research Institute projects that the Gangnam Style video will surpass 1 billion views on Youtube and that this record will be unlikely to be broken in the next ten years by any other video including Psy’s future releases.
