AhnLab Makes Inroad into Network Security Market with Its First Security Appliance, ‘AhnLab TrusGuard 3100’

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--AhnLab, Inc, a leading integrated security solution provider, announced to make the first inroad into the network security appliance market and to reform the current market dominated by foreign products.

At the Press Conference for Network Security Business Strategy held in Seoul, on July 19, 2005, in which the executive officers including Charles Kim, the CEO of AhnLab, and Ike Kim, the CTO of AhnLab, participated, AhnLab introduced a network security appliance AhnLab TrusGuard 3100('TrusGuard') for the first time and announced the company’s plan to lead the global network security market.

This press conference came under the spotlight as AhnLab made a big challenge on the network security market, which had been the stronghold of foreign global security products, and it was the first place in which Charles Kim announced his ambitious plan as the CEO after Charles Ahn, the founder and the former CEO, resigned.

TrusGuard is a network appliance product accumulated of the advanced information protection technology for the past 18 years since the development of its flagship antivirus V3 in 1988. This appliance preserves the corporate network security by effectively scanning/blocking/repairing the frequent network attacks from not only worms and spyware which are the most infamous in network at the moment, but also Dos (Denial of Service) and Network Scanning. This appliance improved the limits of the current firewall functions and IDS, IPS, and vulnerability check solution offered by many network security vendors, and will be provided in a relatively cheaper price than other competitors.

This product is developed especially to protect network by operating the following 3 steps of automatic prevention functions in the entire life cycle from the pre-development of worms to their extinction: ?prediction of worm patterns and distribution of blocking strategy ?distribution of outbreak early-blocking system ?distribution of network worm blocking system. Once a new vulnerability and patch are announced, Step 1 predicts the attacking patterns of worms to develop/distribute a blocking strategy, while Step 2 blocks the worms spreading out via e-mails. After completing the collection and analysis of worms, Step 3 automatically distributes the blocking strategy based on Signature (malicious code defined file).

AhnLab developed AST (AhnLab Security Tower), a services system which automatically distributes a new worm/spyware blocking system every moment to ‘TrusGuard’ installed in each network, and recently ASEC (AhnLab Security Emergency Response Center) began a full-scale operation. As a result, it blocks Zero-Day Attack (a type of attacks within a day since a new vulnerability in a certain system was alerted), which has been problematic in recent days, and enables the seamless protection by real-time operation in a variety of paths where a malicious code such as e-mails or network vulnerabilities can penetrate.

Moreover, ‘TrusGuard’ improved the limitations of the previous network firewall, IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), IDS (Intrusion Detection System), and vulnerability scanning solution. Network firewall, as been revealed in the so called 1.25 Internet Disturbance - SQL Slammer worm attack which swamped the internet in January 2003, is vulnerable to worms sneaking through a permitted path, and IDS and vulnerability check solution enables administrators to find out abnormal signals, while worms are spread out to the entire network when the administrator finds out about the intrusion. In addition, IPS mis-conceives some normal packets as attacking packets.

Also, ‘TrusGuard’ is geared with AhnLab Policy Center 3.0, a central management solution, to fundamentally block the proliferation of worms. In other words, it fundamentally eliminates any potential vulnerability by segregating PCs in which a client security product is not installed or a vulnerable shared folder is being used. As a result, when a new worm infects PC, it blocks all the PC traffics that are possibly infected and prevents the proliferation of worms to the entire network.

‘TrusGuard’ is superior to other products in the following reasons:
?excellent and prompt worm/spyware blocking function ?effective network traffic conduct ?convenient network administrator’s use and management.
First, a worm blocking system with 3 blocking levels provide Signature coping with an ASEC list of worm and spyware for 24 hours throughout the year. Especially, spyware blocking system actualizes the best technology proven by AhnLab SpyZero yet provides a significantly superior function.
Second, it can process a high-speed traffic management in the network environment of 100 megabyte per second and is applicable to various network structures. Third, it is convenient for network administrators to plug and play and AhnLab always and automatically provides important security strategies, which makes the overall management easy. Also, this product is geared with the central management solution, which results in less management burden, and guarantees the network availability when the power is turned off.

In the meanwhile, AhnLab plans to make a minimum profit of 2 billion won (USD 2 Million) or more this year in the Korean network appliance market, which is expected to grow by 30-40% every year, starting from the growth of market profits from 20 billion won last year to 35 billion won this year.
The company set a goal to rank top one in the Korean network security market by 2007 and rank top 10 in the world network appliance market by 2010. AhnLab plans to release a gigabit appliance with faster speed and stronger traffic management system within this year, and continue to develop multi-gigabit network appliances within next year. Also, with the plan of bringing up ‘TrusGuard’ as a global brand, AhnLab plans to make a full-scale inroad to Japan within this year and expand the supply to many other foreign markets.

“TrusGuard has been released after one-year of preparation and is an integrated network security product built with accumulated technologies against malicious code including anti-spyware, outbreak prevention, and sufficient emergency response service capacity,” says Charles Kim, the CEO of AhnLab, at this press conference. “With the release of this product, AhnLab will make one more step forward to move toward an integrated security solution/service company.”
