Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LPL, KRX: 034220), one of the world’s leading innovators of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, today signed an Academic-Industry Partnership Agreement with Korea University, as part of its efforts to strengthen its global network of partnerships with leading Korean and foreign universities.

LG.Philips LCD President & CFO Ron H. Wirahadiraksa and Korea University President Yoon-Dae Euh signed the agreement, under which the two organizations will cooperate in the research and development of LCDs and next generation displays.

To this end, LG.Philips LCD will carry out several LCD related projects over three years, from this August until July 2008. For its part, Korea University will assign approximately fifteen professors to the project.

“Only by securing quality key personnel can we achieve competitiveness befitting an undisputed industry leader,” said Mr. Wirahadiraksa. “Through this academic-industry partnership, we hope to support academic research activity while also contributing to the development of the display industry as a whole.”

In particular, the two sides plan to share the results of the academic-industry R&D efforts to promote mutual advancements and to present a model for cooperation between the academic world and industry.

LG.Philips LCD will additionally offer students at Korea University the opportunity to benefit from its expertise and knowledge of LCD panels and related technology, gained from onsite experience, through a series of lectures.

LG.Philips LCD recently entered into similar agreements with other domestic and foreign universities, including: Pohang University of Science and Technology (November 2004); Imperial College (November 2004); Pusan National University (January 2005); Tokyo Institute of Technology (April 2005); and University of Michigan (May 2005).

These agreements are in line with the company’s plans to strengthen its global network of academic-industry partnerships in the LCD and next-generation display sector. The company will continue to build ties with other local and overseas universities to secure new display technology.
