NHIC sets out ‘Training Course on Social Health Insurance 2005’
President Seung Jae LEE, the National Health Insurance Corporation(NHIC), executes Training Course on Social Health Insurance 2005 for 11 days from August 30 to September 9 at Holiday Inn Seoul, Seoul. This is a formal international training course, designed in an official collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Western Pacific (WHO/WPRO), the United Nations Economics and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare(MoHW).
This year, attendance records 35 experts and officials from 16 countries, an increase from 28 participants from 14 countries last year. Among them, staff from WHO, Tanzania in Africa as well as Asian developing countries are included.
The four collaborative international and local agencies inclusive of NHIC have agreed on a quadripartite MoU in August last year, to seek for an efficient cooperative network for this course.
Most of the participating countries such as China, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Tanzania have been new to health insurance system or just adopted it. Therefore, there has been a great interest in the Korea's successful health insurance system, that is, the process of achieving universal health insurance coverage, efficient management system, and EDI electronic claiming system.
Accordingly, NHIC expects that this course will educate decision makers in Asian Pacific and African regions directly, and consequently activate those countries to facilitate their own health insurance system.
This program does not only deal with general Korean health insurance system, but also covers wide topics such as recent development trends in social security worldwide, health care financing and international experiences in social health insurance.
There is no doubt that this course contains profound knowledges and competent faculty. For instance, several experts from collaborative international organizations - Dr. Aviva Ron from WHO, Keninchi Hirose from ILO - and domestic experts - Prof. Bong-min Yang and Prof. Soonman Kwon from School of Public Health, Seoul National University, and Prof. Minha Kang from College of Social Sciences, Ewha Womans University, Byung Chun Kim from KAIST Graduate School of Management are lining up with NHIC.
Participants will also have chances to visit NHI-related agencies - Ministry of Health and Welfare, Health Insurance Review Agency and health care industry companies - NHIC Insan Hospital, Hanmi Pharm Co.Ltd., Solco Biomedical Co.Ltd. and get full understanding of Korean healthcare system.
NHIC aims to assist those developing countries in Asian and African region to boost their own health insurance system development, by continuously providing education programs to those in need. At the same time, this training program will also serve as a means of public relations of Korea's successful health insurance system and contribute to reshaping Korean image in the world society.
