TOKYO--(Business Wire / Korea Newswire)--NTT DOCOMO, INC. (https://goo.gl/kU2Bua) announced today that it will offer a new travel guide function at no extra cost on Jspeak™, a face-to-face mobile translation application for smartphones and tablets. It will be available on the Android version of the app from October 15, and it is expected to be added to the iOS version in January.

To make the app a more comprehensive tool for overseas visitors, DOCOMO will provide not only easy-to-use voice translation but also useful travel information. Users will also be able to access helpful Japanese phrases for sightseeing spots, shops and restaurants, as well as coupons and special deals. The service will be offered in English, traditional Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese and will ensure travelers have up-to-date information to enjoy their stay in Japan. It will also provide a tailored communication tool for shops and facilities targeting foreign travelers.

Jspeak is modelled on DOCOMO‘s Hanashite Hon’yaku™, a mobile-based automatic translation service. Jspeak enables Japanese and non-Japanese speakers to have face-to-face conversations simply by speaking into a smartphone or a tablet to get a translation as screen text and voice readout. Ten languages—English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai and traditional Chinese—can be translated into Japanese and vice versa.

Jspeak is available for customers from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Portugal, Taiwan, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the U.K. and the U.S.

The app can be downloaded from Google Play with smartphones or tablets running Android 4.0 or later and iOS 8.0 or later. The original translation function is available free of charge up to five times a day. After that, user can select one of two payment plans — 0.99 US dollar for one week or 2.99 US dollars for one month*.

*Service fees may vary depending on the user's home country or region. The fee shown above applies to users from the United States.

The application is not available on some mobile carriers’ Android devices.
