Busan--(뉴스와이어)--A June 2005 Letter of Intent has now become an Investment Memorandum of Understanding as today the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority and Busan Metropolitan City signed an MOU with Advanced Metal‐forming Technologies (AMT) of the U.S.

According to the contents, AMT of Oxnard, California will invest US $50 million into a joint venture with a Korean company for the construction of an aluminum wheel factory within the Busan Science & Industrial Park. Once built, the factory is expected to employ a total of 200 workers with anticipated annual sales amounting to US $60 million.

AMT’s current plant in California hires a total of 135 employees.

“Today’s MOU with AMT is welcomed news for the Busan‐Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority and Busan city,” says Commissioner Chang Soo‐Man. “We promise to do our best in offering the best administrative services possible as AMT establishes its factory within the Busan Science & Industrial Park.”

The Busan Science & Industrial Park covers a total of 496 acres and targets automotive parts, R&D, Mechatronices and New Materials industries. It opened for construction earlier this month.

* The Busan‐Jinhae Free Economic Zone consists of an area totaling 25,900 acres and includes projects such as a new 30‐berth container port to be completed in 2010, as well as the Busan Science & Industrial Park which will open in August of this year. Other developments include an international business city, foreign residential areas, manufacturing, R&D and logistics industries as well as tourism and leisure projects. The Authority is also working to attract the establishment of international schools and hospitals within its boundaries.

The entire developmental project is scheduled for completion by the year 2020.
