Otis Korea’s ‘10 Key Smart Ele’ Operation Panel Earns Red Dot Design Award 2019
The first in the Korean elevator industry to receive one of the top three international design awards
Otis Korea announced that it has become the first in the Korean elevator industry to win an award in the Design Concept track for the Red Dot Design Award 2019 with its 10 Key Smart Ele operation panel
The Red Dot Design Award evaluates industrial designs in three disciplines of product design, communication design, and design concept. Along with the Germany iF Design Award and the American IDEA, it is one of the three leading design awards in the world. This year, more than 4,200 entries were submitted from 48 countries and only six percent were selected.
Through this achievement, Otis has become the first company ever to win the prestigious design awards from Red Dot, iF Design (Mini-Touch in 2009), and IDEA (CompassPlus in 2013).
Beyond the ten buttons and two LCD screens, the Otis 10 Key Smart Ele operating panel offers many different features like current floor indication and weather display. It uses a rectangular design with a black and chrome color scheme for a modern finish.
The panel is connected to Otis Line, the company’s central service center, via video in real time. This feature enables prompt response in case of any issues. It also features “crime prevention,” where the sensors will return the elevator to the ground floor and notify authorities if an emergency is detected.
“The key concepts of 10 Key Smart Ele are focused on user convenience and distinguished experience enabled by smart technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT),” said Dr. Ji-hyeon Jeong, head of the Otis Korea Design Center. “Our strategy is to drive the market with our ‘experience-oriented’ elevator design, offering new, exceptional user experience to riders.”
Otis Korea received the Good Design Award from the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) for three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017 and received the Presidential Award from the KIDP in 2017, winning all major domestic design awards.
