Samsung Electronics and TVA Agree on Partnership to bring WiMAX Platform to Brazil

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Samsung Electronics, Korea based leading telecom systems and mobile phone provider, and TVA Sistema de Televisao S.A, an innovative telecom service provider of Abril Group in Brazil have signed a partnership to implement WiMAX platform in Brazil. The agreement, signed on Tuesday (November 8, 2005), makes TVA the first operator able to offer Mobile WiMAX service in Latin America, reaffirming the company’s history as a trendsetter and high-technology services provider.

WiMAX platform is offering wireless high-speed data communications on the move complying with IEEE 802.16e standard. The technology boasts maximum 3Mbps capacity per user, total mobility up to 120km/h and can be used both as a fixed or mobile technology. In addition to mobility and portability, WiMAX platform also brings low cost data transmission to the Brazilian users.

According to the agreement, WiMAX technology trials will begin in Brazil during the second quarter of 2006. Thanks to Samsung’s advanced Mobile WiMAX equipment and experienced installation support partnered with TVA’s innovative multimedia contents and service operations, Brazilian customers will be able to enjoy high speed internet, voice communications, and other multimedia broadcasting contents on the move from the second half of 2006.

"The partnership with Samsung Electronics is extremely relevant, since it opens up new markets, creates new relationship opportunities with consumers and is aligned with TVA’s core business. Broadband Internet with total mobility has long been awaited by users and has now finally become a reality, and the Abril Group will provide personalized content to help meet this need”, said Leila Loria, electronic distribution director for the Abril Group. “The MMDS digitalization will maximize and optimize the use of the 2,5 GHz frequency band, then enabling fixed, portable and Mobile WiMAX services to be released”, she concluded.

The natural evolution of the wireless service is to be rolled-out to basic institutions in the country, such as hospitals, schools, universities and public institutions in general, which will be able to use the technology’s potential to benefit the served communities.

Soonho Hong, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Telecommunication Systems Division, Samsung Electronics explained significance of the partnership. “Samsung is very honored to team with TVA, one of the most innovative telecom service providers in Latin America backed by Abril Group to provide Brazilian people with such an advanced new telecom service. We will fully support our partner, TVA, for successful deployment of the service.”

“Samsung is an early adopter of Mobile WiMAX technology. The participants of APEC can enjoy WiBro service in Korea during the third week of November this year. WiBro commercial service, Korean brand name of Mobile WiMAX, will be launched from the second quarter of 2006. In the continuing effort to commercialize Mobile WiMAX technology worldwide, Samsung Electronics has already started the field trial for Japanese KDDI and signed an agreement to provide equipment to BT of UK as well as Sprint Nextel of United States”, he added.
