Japanese Foreign Minister pays visit to Cheong Wa Dae
President Roh gave a high evaluation on yesterday's trilateral foreign ministers meeting in that it represented very useful consultations in light of current developments concerning the North's nuclear issue. The Korean President stressed that it is important for countries involved to faithfully implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1718 based on mutual respect for each nation's situation while engaging in peaceful and diplomatic efforts to resolve the problem.
Minister Aso noted that each country should closely monitor the unfolding developments and deliberate on specific measures to take in connection with the U.N. Security Council's latest resolution. The Japanese Foreign Minister stated that his government would implement the Resolution 1718 in coordination with Korea, the United States, and all other parties concerned.
Stressing the importance of Korea-Japan relations, President Roh expressed the hope that the two countries would be able to eliminate the stumbling blocks arising from historical issues and march toward a brighter future together.
With the recent launching of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's administration, the Japanese top diplomat said, the Tokyo government will step up its efforts to forge future-oriented ties with Korea.
