President to Hold Bilateral Summits on Sidelines of APEC
In particular, the bilateral talks with the other participants in the Six Party Talks, namely the United States, Japan, China, and Russia, hold great importance as they head into the next round. The summits with these leaders is expected to serve as a vehicle to facilitate close cooperation for the successful dismantlement of North Korea’s nuclear program and to produce visible progress, including the implementation of the September 19, 2005 Joint Statement.
President Roh is also scheduled to hold discussions with the leader of Viet Nam, the host of APEC 2006, on how they can improve collaboration between Korea and ASEAN. The President will also meet with the Canadian leader to discuss how to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation.
