Remarks by President Roh Moo-hyun at a Luncheon for Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen of the Kingdom of Denmark
Distinguished guests,
Excellency, I am extremely pleased to meet you again today.
Our meeting on the fringe of the ASEM summit in September was far too short and I am delighted to welcome you and Mrs. Rasmussen to Korea.
The Korean People have a special liking for Denmark.
Denmark has provided valuable assistance to Korea during the Korean war, and in the reconstruction efforts after the war.
It is also a model for Korea in many areas, including advanced agriculture, excellent social welfare and employment system.
And your leadership over the past 5 years has contributed to the continued prosperity of Denmark.
Denmark leads the world in administrative innovations which enhances national competitiveness. Its Official Development Aid for developing countries also sets an example for the rest of the international community to follow.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to you, Excellency and to the people of Denmark for your leadership.
The expansion of cooperation between our two countries will be mutually beneficient.
Denmark's competitiveness in state of the art industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, new and renewable energy, coupled with Korea's electronics, information technology will be further enhanced to the benefit of our two countries.
In addition, I hope our bilateral cooperation will exapnd to encompass education, culture and sports.
Our two countries enjoy a very close cooperation in the internataional arena.
I am especially appreciative of Denmark's support for Korea's efforts to establish peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
We are also grateful for the support that Denmark has shown in the appointment of the incoming UN Secretary General Ban.
Your visit, I believe, will be an opportunity to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between our two countries.
