Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--I congratulate the Uri Party on holding the party convention successfully and electing new leaders in the face of various ordeals and challenges. I believe that the foundation is now laid for the new party leaders to responsibly steer the Uri Party in the right direction.

I have been somewhat hesitant about coming to a decision on my affiliation with the party, on which there have been both supportive and opposing views within the party. As long as there are hints, no matter how slight, of voices inside the Party that demand the resolution of my affiliation, I find it necessary to help ease any uncertainty that might lend itself to intra-party conflicts. I have already stated that I would make a decision on my party affiliation in a way that benefits the party.

The incumbent President cannot be a candidate in the forthcoming presidential election. Nonetheless, some people are attacking the President on a groundless basis for political gain in the election. I am concerned about the wrong political landscape. I hope that this political climate will be improved by my decision to resolve my affiliation with the party.

Former presidents were forced to disassociate themselves from their party late in their term, and I am sorry that I could not overcome the structural problem of Korean politics and the wrong political climate that caused it.
