Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--President and Mrs. Heinz Fischer of Austria are scheduled to make a state visit to Korea from April 1-4 at the invitation of President Roh Moo-hyun. At the summit on April 2, the two leaders will discuss ways to expand substantive cooperation in the area of economic and trade affairs. They will also exchange views on the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia and the European Union.

The Austrian head of state will be accompanied by over 140 high-ranking government officials and dignitaries, including six cabinet members, five legislators and some 50 business leaders. The Austrian President and Mrs. Fischer will attend a state dinner to be hosted by the Korean presidential couple and tour the inter-Korean border town of Panmunjeom and industrial complexes of major Korean companies.

President Fischer is the first Austrian head of state to visit Korea since the two nations established diplomatic relations in 1963. The Korean Government places high expectations on President Fischer’s state visit in that it will serve as a milestone in bolstering Seoul’s substantial cooperative ties with one of the leading European states.
