Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki of Iraq is scheduled to visit Korea April 11-13 accompanied by an official delegation, including the Minister of Oil, Minister of Electricity, Minister of Industry & Minerals and Minister of Municipalities & Public Works. During his visit, Prime Minister al-Maliki will have a summit and luncheon with President Roh Moo-hyun, attend a dinner hosted by the Korean Prime Minister and a breakfast meeting hosted by Korea’s four major business associations as well as tour around industrial facilities in Korea.

During the Prime Minster’s visit to Seoul, the two countries are expected to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation in various areas, recent developments in their respective regions and matters of mutual interest, including Korean Government assistance for reconstruction projects in Iraq and Korean companies’ venturing into the country as well as collaboration in such fields as resources, electric power and construction.

Prime Minister al-Maliki is the highest-ranking Iraqi official to visit Korea since the inauguration of a new government in Baghdad last May and his upcoming visit is expected to bring Korea’s relations with Iraq to a new stage of cooperation. His visit comes after the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy in Korea on November 30, 2006 and the re-chartering of the Korea-Iraq Joint Economic Committee that held its 5th session February 6-8 this year after a 19-year hiatus.
