Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi to Visit Korea
Prime Minister Prodi is the first Italian premier to visit Korea for a summit since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. His visit comes two months after President Roh visited Italy last February, attesting to Italy’s exceptional interest in Korea and determination to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The first G7 country to establish diplomatic ties with North Korea after the end of the Cold War, Italy has played an important role in bringing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. Prime Minister Prodi’s government was launched in May last year and has been actively working to strengthen Italy’s relations with Asian nations.
Based on the continuous amicable and collaborative relations and exchanges of high-ranking officials between the two governments, the Korean Government plans to continue to build up cooperative ties with Italy in diverse areas including politics, economy and culture.
