First Lady Opens Baby Nursing Room
On hand at the ceremony hanging a sign reading, “Room Where Babies and Mothers Are Happy,” were expecting mothers from the Cheong Wa Dae secretariat; Park Ju-hyun, a member of the Presidential Committee on Aging Society and Population Policy; and Choi Sun-jeong, Chair of the Planned Population Federation of Korea (PPFK). During the brief ceremony, a representative of new and expectant mothers from the Cheong Wa Dae staff thanked the First Lady for initiating the installation of the new facilities for women.
During the ceremony, the First Lady emphasized the need to foster a family-friendly organizational culture, especially when the nation is in a dire need of a female workforce while experiencing low birth rates. She said, “It is quite natural for the Office of the President to champion the cause and lead the nation-wide campaign. Whenever I have a chance to visit organizations both in Seoul and the provinces, I plan to introduce them to the model Cheong Wa Dae nursing room for babies and mothers.”
The Cheong Wa Dae nursing room will be used by new mothers to rest as well as to nurse their babies. Installation of such facilities is part of the movement sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as well as the PPFK. The facility at the presidential office complex is the 26th such gift from the joint project.
