Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--I am deeply saddened by the tragic news that another Korean hostage was killed during my stay as the special envoy in Afghanistan. I pray for the repose of the soul of the victims, and offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. The Korean government will not tolerate any further acts of harming innocent Koreans. We once again strongly urge the kidnappers to promptly stop these atrocious acts and release the Korean citizens taken hostage.

As the special presidential envoy, I clearly delivered the Korean government's position to the Afghanistan government and sought all possible measures for the safe and speedy release of the Korean hostages in close cooperation with the Afghanistan government. I regret to inform you that there have been no tangible result yet, but I hope that the Afghanistan government will understand and seriously review the Korean government's position.

Two Koreans have already been slain. However, the Korean government will continue with patience to exert all possible efforts to secure the early and safe release of the remaining Korean hostages. The Korean Government makes clear our position that we oppose military actions to resolve this matter, and we would like to emphasize once again that the safety of the Korean hostages will be a matter of the highest priority.

The Korean government will continue to consult with the Afghanistan government in a closely coordinating manner, while cooperating with the international community in multilateral ways. We strongly ask for active support of the international community so that all the remaining Korean hostages can safely return home as early as possible.

I would like to express my deep regret for returning to Korea with still many Koreans held hostage in Afghanistan. Taking the worries of the Korean people with a grave responsibility, the Korean government will continue to make every possible efforts to secure the safe and early return of the Korean hostages.
