African Union condemns abductions in Afghanistan
During the meeting, President Roh reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to solidifying cooperation on Africa’s development and working closely with the AU to strengthen ties with African countries into the future.
Chairman Konare strongly denounced the abduction of innocent Korean civilians by an armed group in Afghanistan, adding that they should be returned home safely at the earliest date. In reply, President Roh extended his appreciation for the AU’s recent statement calling for the speedy release of the kidnapped Korean citizens. He asked for the continuing support of the AU and the international community in an effort to bring them home safely.
Chairman Konare is on a visit to Korea from August 6-9, at the invitation of the Korean foreign minister.
