President Roh hosts luncheon for President of Gabon
President Bongo, distinguished ladies and gentlemen,
I wholeheartedly welcome Your Excellency and the delegation of Gabon who traveled a long distance to visit Korea.
Your Excellency has been guiding the stability and development of Gabon with outstanding leadership and experience. You also have contributed greatly to peace and prosperity in Africa by having proposed an Economic Community of Central African States and by mediating regional disputes. Your Excellency’s selection as this year’s recipient of the Manhae Peace Prize has much to do with such prominent leadership, and I offer my tribute to the great endeavor of the people of Gabon as well as to yourself.
The conversation I had with you today was very beneficial. Based on 45 years of friendly relations, Korea and Gabon will further expand substantial cooperation in the area of resources including energy, infrastructure construction and IT. Your visit this time should give decisive momentum to bilateral collaboration.
The Government has set its eyes on strengthening cooperation with African countries through Korea’s Initiative for Africa’s Development. I expect that both countries will continue to work together for the peace and prosperity of Asia, Africa and ultimately the world.
I would like to propose a toast to President Bongo’s health, the prosperity of Gabon, and everlasting friendship between our two countries.
Geonbae!
