President sends letter of consolation to NK leader
President Roh Moo-hyun today sent a letter to Kim Jong-il, chairman of the North Korean Defense Commission, conveying words of consolation for the loss of many lives and extensive property damage caused by the unprecedented heavy rain in the North.
In the letter, President Roh expressed his hope for the North’s early recovery from the flood damage, while promising to render cooperation necessary for restoration efforts there.
The President also stated that he expected to have heart-to-heart talks with the North Korean leader about inter-Korean peace and common prosperity in the summit meeting soon to be held in Pyongyang.
The original copy of the letter was handed over to the North through the meeting of liaison officers at the truce village of Panmunjom.
