President offers congratulations on the 34th Los Angeles Korean Festival
I congratulate you on the 34th Los Angeles Korean Festival this year. I extend my warm greetings to all the citizens in your great city.
The Korean Festival has served as a good opportunity for Koreans living in the region to strengthen the bonds of friendship and promote Korean culture in the community. I hope the festival will provide an enjoyable venue for creating harmony through a variety of events.
Whenever I meet Koreans living overseas, I feel that the Korean people have great potential, indeed. Notably, the two million Korean Americans have made great success stories, starting from scratch in various fields, overcoming difficulties with painful efforts and indomitable courage.`
Trying and tough lives in a foreign country notwithstanding, you have never ceased to care for your homeland. Whenever there is a major difficulty in Korea, you are the first ones who voluntarily provide help, contributing to the democratization and peace of the Korean Peninsula as well. I extend my heartfelt respect and gratitude to all of you.
Korea is now establishing itself as a nation that can be of great pride and help to all of you. Many countries are hoping to maintain cooperative ties with your homeland. A Korean is now UN Secretary-General, which attests to the heightened status of our country. In addition, the worrisome North Korean nuclear issue is now on the path to being resolved.
Korea-U.S. relations are progressing without a hitch based on mutual respect and cooperation. When the KORUS FTA comes into effect and the visa-waiver program is made available to Koreans, there will be many more opportunities for all of you.
Chuseok is just around the corner. I wish all of you a joyful holiday, good health and abundant happiness.
Thank you.
