Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--Cha Seong-su, Senior Secretary to the President for the Civic and Social Agenda, encountered his father-in-law’s cousin in the North at the dinner hosted by President Roh yesterday at the People’s Palace of Culture. Cha and Yun Ki Jong, 79, now a professor emeritus at Kim Il Sung University had a photo taken with the South Korean Presidential couple.

When he left for the North, Senior Secretary Cha was asked by his father-in-law to try to find his relative. He eventually did meet her by chance at yesterday’s dinner. Yun Ki Jong was treasury minister for 20 years and then served as President of the National Economic Institute of the North. When she came to know that Senior Secretary Cha is the husband of one of her first cousins once removed, she held his hands tightly, asking, “Is it true?”

Viewing the scene from the VIP table, First Lady Kwon Yang-suk asked the Chief of the Presidential Security Service, “How come they are so excited to see each other?” Learning of the meeting between relatives from the two Koreas, President Roh proposed they take a picture with him to commemorate the encounter.

Senior Secretary Cha, a member of the special delegation from South Korea, said, “I tried to find her yesterday but couldn’t. I am so glad indeed to meet her unexpectedly here.”

Yun Ki Jong also seemed excited to meet her relative from the South. She said, “I heard a lot from my mother that her younger brother lives in the South. It is a great pleasure to see his son’s son-in-law.” The two relatives kept on talking skipping dinner and reluctantly said goodbye when the event was over after midnight.
