InterContinental Hotels Seoul get the world's top rating for hygiene
The Grand InterContinental Seoul and the COEX InterContinental Seoul received an award in 2004 from the Total Quality Certification Services International Pty. Ltd which authenticates Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point/HACCP. It is one of the only hotels in Asia Pacific that strictly supervises the maintenance of its reputation for hygiene.
HACCP team members from Food & Beverage, Kitchen, Engineering, Quality & Hygiene and Materials department work hand in hand to achieve the highest hygiene as they believe eating healthy and safe food is as important as eating tasty food. Eighty-nine areas are evaluated to check the level of hygiene in the kitchens. The floors, refrigerators, plates and dishes, hand washing and the personal sanitation of staff members are also carefully inspected. Not only do the chefs have to know how to cook, but must understand and practice thorough sanitation. Moreover ATP (adenosine tri phosphate) test is conducted periodically to secure more complete safety. (The ATP test is a type of microorganism test which shows the results for contamination within 10 seconds while common microorganism tests take at least 24 hours to decide the contamination occurrence.) The security guards in the Blue House (the residence of Korea's president) frequently use the ATP test to protect international VIP guests from "food terrorism."
Director of Operations Korea and General Manager of the Grand Intercontinental Seoul, Mr. Hans. W. Olbertz says that the both Hotels' hygiene level was near to perfect and that even JohnsonDiversey was surprised to see such results. GM Olbertz thanked his staff for following and respecting the procedures for sanitation.
