KHRDI, running Healthcare Policy and Program Management for 10 Asian Countries with KOICA

서울--(뉴스와이어)--Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare(KHRDI, President Lee Sang Suk) and KOICA ran Healthcare Policy and Program Management for 10 Asian Countries from 18th April to 8th May in 2010.

20 healthcare policymakers from 10 Asian countries including East Timor, Laos, Nepal, the Philippines, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Pakistan, China, Bangladesh participated in the training program aiming to establish healthcare policies by learning about successful Korean healthcare policies and programs.

The training course consisted of lectures on Korean healthcare system, healthcare policies, healthcare system, workshops, study visits to KCDC, KNIH, National Cancer Center, Heo Jun museum, Yang Ju city public health center and field trip to POSCO, Hyundai Motors and Heavy Industries, Busan APEC House, President Park's Memorial Park and Handok Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Especially, Action Learning under the title of successful strategy of healthcare policy development for Asian countries was introduced to workshops to find solutions efficiently. Action Learning is a method to establish action plans by sharing experiences and finding solutions after discussing their own healthcare problems with health experts, which received positive response from participants.

“It was a little difficult to set a direction in the beginning but we finally found right solutions through continuous feedback. I think even though it is difficult to apply 100% of action plans to our situation but utilizing 70 to 80% of them will be possible.” said Qazi Mujtaba Kamal, a 53-year-old participant, Deputy Director General MER, Ministry of Health in Pakistan.

Trained volunteer, graduates of healthcare and medicine also participated in the training course to support the establishment of action plans. “I am proud to find my knowledge in this field was helpful to develop action plans.” said Ryou Hyung Gon, a 28-year-old volunteer, a graduate of School of Public Health, University of Illinois at Chicago.

“It was worthwhile to see participants complete the course successfully. I hope the training program can be helpful for participants to solve their own health issues by applying what they learned from the course.” said Park Seng Eun, a 30-year-old program coordinator of the training course and KHRDI staff of international training center.
