KHRDI ran Child and Maternal Health Promotion with KOICA for 22 doctors and health officials from 13 countries
The participants attended to lectures on Korean Maternal and Child Health Policies and Practices of Child and Maternal Health and Case of Successful Child and Maternal Health Projects and went to Study Visits. Through the programs, health experts had an opportunity to compare Child and Maternal Health Policies between Korea and each country, analyzed them and learned about success factors of Korean child and maternal projects. Especially, participants analyzed child and maternal health programs and health care issues, sought solutions and established action plans through 6 times workshop.
The training course consisted of Study Visits to KCDC, KNIH, Seoul National University Hospital and Children's Hospital, Yangju Public Health Center - Subcenter - Primary Healthcare Posts and Busan Ilsin Christian Hospital. Also, KHRDI prepared field trips to Saemaul Museum, Busan APEC House, the Hyundai Heavy Industry, the Hyundai Motors, the Gyeongju cultural heritage, cultural experience programs including visit to Daejanggeum Theme Park and Home Visiting Program.
“This training course was meaningful in that we took an opportunity to deal with major health issues through lectures and workshop. I was satisfied to enhance knowledge about child and maternal health.” said Mrs. Teresita Puenta, the representative from the department of health in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, child and maternal health is related with Goal 4. Reduce Child Mortality and Goal 5. Improve Maternal Health of UN Millenium Development Goals. In this regard, it is expected that training for child and maternal health promotion for developing nations will increase thanks to UN plan to implement child and maternal health projects actively by adopting the Joint Action Plan for Women‘s and Children’s Health to achieve the MDG4, MDG5 in Oct., 2010.
