STMicroelectronics Demonstrates State-of-the-Art Technology for the ‘Ubiquitous World’ at RFID USN KOREA 2010

- Exhibiting under the theme of “Serving the Needs of our Planet Earth and its People”, ST displays its industry-leading solutions for Touch Sensors, U-Healthcare, Security and MEMS Sensors

Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, will demonstrate its leading-edge solutions at RFID USN KOREA 2010, the international exhibition and conference on RFID and Ubiquitous Sensor Network at COEX in Seoul, Korea on December 2-4, 2010.

RFID USN KOREA visitors are invited to Stand D-115, where ST is showcasing its wide range of innovative products for various segments, including Touch Sensors, Ubiquitous Healthcare (U-Healthcare), Security and MEMS Sensors.

·Touch Sensors

ST’s STMTouch family of advanced touch-sensing solutions is a user-friendly platform for fast and safe development of proximity, key, capacitive-screen and resistive-screen applications across industrial, consumer and nomadic segments. The STMTouch benefits from ST’s industry-acclaimed STM32 and STM8 architectures combined with very-low-power technologies and low-energy-oriented features.

ST's STM8T141 ultra-low-power touch controller is a single-channel 8-pin capacitive sensor for human-touch or short-range proximity detection. The STM8T141 uses the field-proven and robust charge-transfer capacitive technology to detect human presence or absence. It measures human body capacitance near an electrode (usually made with a copper pad) behind a dielectric such as glass or acrylic panel. The STM8T141’s performance, its extremely low consumption and small footprint give designers a highly-versatile approach to applications. As well as replacing traditional mechanical switches, the device can serve to automatically start music when the headset is detected to be on the user’s head; similarly, it can simply wake up a PC mouse when the user approaches and put it on standby when the user leaves.

ST's touch-sensing library is a complete, free source-code solution to transform any 8-bit STM8 microcontroller into a capacitive touchkey controller. This solution allows designers acquainted with the use of standard microcontrollers to create higher-end human-machine interfaces, replacing conventional electromechanical switches by touch-sensing control. Designers can combine the touch-sensing function through multiple configurations (touchkeys, wheels, sliders) with the traditional microcontroller features (communication, LED control, beeper, LCD control). The touch-sensing software library is part of the application firmware.

At RFID USN KOREA 2010, ST will demonstrate various application cases based on the STMTouch and Touch Sensing Library: Tactical Sensors based on the STM8L151, developed by a leading keypad and touch-screen supplier in Korea for mobile phones; a 7-inch LCD display with touch screen based on the STM32; and LED stand and lighting solutions with touch key technology based on the STM8.

·U-healthcare

ST’s industry-unique dual-interface EEPROM enables quick and easy contactless reading and writing in a wide variety of applications, including diagnostics, parameter update, remote activation and asset tracking across the medical industrial, and consumer fields. ST will demonstrate affordable and accessible healthcare applications based on the dual-interface EEPROM, which enables remote data exchange between NFC-enabled smart phones and appliances, providing live and remote access to patient medical information with zero on-board energy consumption.

·Security

ST was the first company to release secure microcontrollers that combine ISO/IEC 7816 and USB interfaces. Secure USB tokens are particularly suited for PC-based applications such as secure login, secure e-mail, digital signatures, and secure remote access.

ST has developed a complete range of smartcard ICs that cover every aspect of large-scale, government-level programs, including national ID, passport, national health, driving license, and registered-traveler projects. Based on advanced 0.13-micron and 90nm EEPROM technologies, ST’s ID/Passport chips support specific requirements for security (EAL6+), reliability, speed and interoperability. The devices have proven their value in deployments in a number of government projects in Korea, including the RFID smart cards for the Seoul Subway, called Single Journey Tickets, based on ST’s SRT512 contactless memory chip, as well as the T-Money pre-paid transport card based on ST’s proven ST19WR contactless smartcard IC.

In addition, ST offers an advanced technology System-on-Chip solution for both NFC-enabled mobile phones and contactless readers for all 13.56MHz RF applications, with the ST21NFCA. The product is based on a microcontroller architecture with embedded EEPROM and multiple connectivity channels. By integrating a complete set of firmware, and complying with all relevant standards, the ST21NFCA is perfectly suited to address all possible NFC uses.

·MEMS Sensors

The leading supplier of MEMS for consumer and portable applications, ST will demonstrate gyroscope technology on an Android OS platform, including MP3 player, character recognition, and augmented reality. Also, ST will show a pressure sensor demo that provides pressure and temperature value information for in-door navigation solutions.
