Ssangyong Motor to support protocol vehicles for UNCCD COP-10

SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--Ssangyong Motor(President & CEO Lee Yoo-il; www.smotor.com), part of the US$12.5 billion Mahindra Group, announced on Oct. 6, 2011 that it has been selected to provide protocol vehicles for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP-10) which will be held in Asia for the first time from Monday Oct. 10 to Friday Oct. 21, 2011 in Changwon, Gyeongnam, South Korea.

Ssangyong held an official ceremony at its Daechi dealership to introduce the 15 protocol vehicles, including 10 units of the luxury sedan New Chairman W and 5 units of the new concept CUV Korando C. Executive Director of Marketing for the Ssangyong Young-shik Shin, UNCCD Executive Secretary Luc Gnacadja and other representatives from both parties attended the event.

The New Chairman W will be used as the official vehicle for UNCCD Executive Secretary Luc Gnacadja and other heads of delegations, while the Korando C will serve other transport functions during the convention.

Ssangyong will establish a task force service team to ensure the smooth operation and arrangement of protocol vehicles and the safety of VIPs. The automaker will also create an emergency repair service hotline to provide exemplary support service.

Ssangyong plans to set up a promotion booth for the New Chairman W and Korando C at the main venue of the conference, the Changwon Convention Center in Gyeongnam, to familiarize visitors with the models through promotional events.

Over 3,000 delegations and about 100 thousand visitors are expected to participate in the upcoming UNCCD COP-10, including the environment ministers and vice ministers of 194 member states and other representatives, officials from international organizations and governments, and members of NGOs and other national bodies.
