SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA--(Korea Newswire)--KT Skylife, the sole 3D broadcaster in Korea, has received the I3DS‘s (International 3D Society) “Jury Prize (The Society’s Special Prize)” from the 3rd 3D Creative Arts Awards of I3DS with its 3D micro-space episode “Forest of Fireflies.”

I3DS: The International 3D Society was founded to advance the arts and technologies of stereoscopic 3D content and its professional innovators through education, hands-on demonstration and recognition.

This year‘s 3D Creative Arts Awards bestowed a prize for 15 fields of work including movie, documentary and television broadcasting and the world’s leading 3D content production companies like NHK Japan, BSkyB London/Europe, Beijing Film Group, ESPN competed for the prize.

“Forest of Fireflies” has received favorable comments as it was produced using ultra close-up camera technology. The nighttime 3D infrared camera technology has been developed by Sky HD Broadcasting, a subsidiary of KT Skylife. This 3D science documentary will take viewers into the natural wonder of fireflies. The judges commented, “The close-up 3D images shown in this documentary make it both beautiful to watch and a valuable and powerful educational tool for teachers and students.”

Such blockbusters from the major movie studios as “Tron: Legacy” (Disney), “Hubble 3D” (IMAX), “The Chronicles of Narnia” (20th Century Fox), “Toy Story 3” (Disney), “Avatar” (20th Century Fox), “Up” (Disney-Pixar) have been awarded the same prize from 3D Creative Arts Awards. In 2011, James Cameron made an award with his own 3D film “Avatar” and Martin Scorsese received the prize with “Hugo.”

“Forest of Fireflies” is a 3D natural science documentary about the world of fireflies by using the world's first 3D ultra close-up & infrared camera technology which was developed by 100% domestic staff, and also received the Grand Prize at the Korean 3D Festival in 2011.
