Cortina Systems and Superxon Deliver Industry's First Dual-Mode GPON/EPON SFP ONU
- Cortina‘s CS8232 Dual Mode GPON/EPON ONU Powers Superxon’s SFP ONU
The dual-mode SFP ONU “stick,” compliant to the SFP MSA standard form factor, encloses the low-power, industrial temperature grade CS8232 ONU SoC along with flash memory and optics. The field-proven, software stack supports autosensing of EPON or GPON mode, and can immediately interoperate with any commercial OLT in the market. Samples are currently available from Superxon.
“Customers have been asking for a way to add PON capabilities to existing equipment,” commented Jack Zhou, Marketing & FAE Director of Superxon. “With Cortina‘s innovative turnkey platform, Superxon was able bring to market the industry’s first integrated dual-mode GPON/EPON SFP ONU allowing system vendors and carriers to add PON to their offerings.”
“As the industry moves to enhance traditional point-to-point Ethernet with cost-efficient point-to-multipoint PON networks, an integrated xPON device is necessary to enable this shift,” stated Lup Ng, Senior Product Line Manager, Cortina Systems. “Combining Superxon‘s integration leadership and Cortina’s industry leading EPON/GPON ONU enabled us to work together to deliver an innovative solution to address the market's need for an equipment upgrade and transition.”
CS8232: Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU Turnkey Solution
The Cortina CS8232 Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU SoC comes with complete turnkey software and hardware solutions. Coupled with the Cortina OMCI and TR-069 stack, the CS8232 ONU's flexible architecture allows it to be configured as either a full-featured Home Gateway Unit (HGU) or as a cost effective data ONU, enabling system vendors to maximize their resources by designing one solution for the entire market. With turnkey software from Cortina, customers can bring a field-proven solution to market with little R&D investment and technical risk.
