BEDFORD, MA--(Korea Newswire)--EnterpriseDB (EDB,http://www.enterprisedb.com/), the leading worldwide provider of enterprise-class Postgres products and Oracle database compatibility(http://www.enterprisedb.com/solutions/oracle-compatibility) solutions, today announced the formation of a new PostgreSQL User Group in Seoul, South Korea. Co-founders of the group include EDB partners Daou Technologies and Penta Systems, both of which are major technology solution providers in South Korea.

Interest in open source software has been rising in South Korea following government initiatives to promote open source as a way to avoid proprietary lock-in. While initial efforts emphasized the adoption of open source for the operating system, middleware and virtualization layers of enterprise and government software portfolios, organizations are now looking for open source solutions for the database layer.

PostgreSQL, often called Postgres, is the most powerful enterprise-class open source relational database and it is supported and developed by the world‘s largest independent open source development community. South Korea is already home to a large community of Postgres users who make significant contributions to the global Postgres community. Developers at KT Corp., for example, play an active role in the community. KT Corp. is working on one of the largest enterprise database migrations from a proprietary vendor to EDB’s open source based Postgres Plus Advanced Server.

EDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server features enterprise-class security, performance and manageability enhancements for Postgres. EDB also provides professional services, support and training to help ensure companies succeed. The company is closely aligned with Postgres user groups in the US and supports user conferences worldwide.

“Open source software is all about community. User groups where Postgres developers can interact, share experiences and trade best practices are important for their success and their company's success,” said Ed Boyajian, CEO and president of EnterpriseDB. “Our partners Daou Technologies and Penta Systems and their Korean customers are realizing tremendous success with PostgreSQL and we want to support our expanding user base.”

“Postgres is an important solution for our customers and we want to support their efforts to deepen their skills and expertise,” said Younduck Kim, vice president, Daou Technologies. “With EDB, we are providing a resource for our end users that will help the Postgres community in South Korea grow and flourish.”

“Open source software is a valuable alternative to costly proprietary systems and for the database, Postgres provides the best performance and value for our customers,” said Jongjun Jang, CEO of Penta Systems. “Working with EDB to create the user group and help our end users will strengthen the Postgres community and help ensure our customers are successful.”
