Seoul--(뉴스와이어)--The Ministry of Culture and Tourism organized a committee to establish a “newspaper distribution board” and held its first meeting on Wednesday (Aug. 31).

The committee, consisting of seven experts recommended by media-related organizations, including the Korean Association of Newspapers, the Korea Press Foundation, the National Union of Mediaworkers and the Citizens’ Coalition for Democratic Media, will set up the board efficiently and develop mid- and long-term profit-generating models for newspapers.

The committee will also seek to implement a joint newspaper delivery system as a means of tiding over difficulties facing the newspaper industry.

Once implemented, the service is expected to greatly contribute to helping the papers tide over financial difficulties, providing citizens with higher quality news.

The ministry plans to hold a public hearing on the joint newspaper delivery system in October and establish the board in November.
